About the Branch and the WA State Soil

WA State soil

The Western Australian Branch of the Australian Society of Soil Science Inc. is an active group promoting
the understanding and awareness of soil science through the State.

The most frequent event organised and promoted by the by Branch committee is the Soil Science seminar series, most often delivered at the University of Western Australia, Perth campus.

The Annual Boodja Lecture is held to acknowledge the important role of aboriginal understanding in the responsible management of our soil and land.

New members (full, associate and students) are always welcome to join the Western Australian Branch.

 The Western Australian State Soil is the Yellow Chromosol. 

Also known as Grey Sandy Duplex soils, Yellow Chromosols feature a sandy, usually grey coloured, topsoil over a mottled clay subsoil. Widespread in south-west WA, they are used for forestry, grazing, viticulture and cropping.

 

 

 

2015 WA State Conference 7-9 September Mandurah WA.  

The State Conference celebrated the International Year of Soils 2015 from a Western Australian soils perspective. Highlights included

- Annual Boodja Lecture

- Latest soils research in WA

- Field trip of the region

- Soil judging competition

Soil Science Australia (WA Branch) hosts the annual WA Boodja Soil Science Lecture.

Boodja is a Noongar word for “land” and the lecture series acknowledges the important role of aboriginal understanding in the responsible management of our soil and land.
